Pontera Launches Bulk Rebalancing for Retirement Plan Advisors
Bulk Rebalancing, a new workflow that helps advisory firms and their authorized investment or trading teams streamline the rebalancing of select accounts within a single workplace retirement plan, was unveiled Wednesday by New York-based fintech Pontera.
One of Pontera’s most requested features, Mass rebalancing provides a more centralized and scalable way to manage rework when multiple clients share the same workplace pension plan.
“The consulting firms were clear about the problem: when many clients have the same workplace plan, repeating the same work account after account is time-consuming and difficult to scale,” said Dave Goldman, Pontera’s chief business officer. “Mass Rebalancing streamlines this work, helping advisory teams get more than three hours per plan while maintaining the visibility and control they need. By reducing manual work, firms can spend less time on administrative tasks and more time serving clients.”
“Mass Rebalancing allows firms to standardize portfolio management at the plan level while maintaining account-level visibility and oversight. Teams can scale their operations without relinquishing control.”

Advisory firms increasingly want to manage a larger volume of workplace retirement plan accounts as part of a holistic strategy for clients, but account-heavy plan workflows can be difficult to scale. If multiple clients have the same workplace pension plan, their accounts are drawn from the same investment pipeline, but advisory teams may still have to perform similar portfolio rebalancing and order management work on an account-by-account basis, resulting in many hours of work.
When creating a portfolio for accounts within the same plan, firms can determine a target allocation using the investments available in a specific workplace plan, match them to the appropriate risk profiles of the end customer where possible, and assign suitable accounts. When firms are ready to rebalance, Bulk Rebalancing allows authorized users to select, view and submit rebalances to multiple designated accounts in a single workflow, while tracking order status and history.
“Scale only works when teams can control the workflow,” said Michal Barr, director of product management at Pontera. “Mass Rebalancing allows firms to standardize portfolio management at the plan level while maintaining account-level visibility and oversight. Teams can scale their operations without relinquishing control.”
In a press release, Pontera detailed five core Bulk Rebalancing capabilities designed to make single-plan rebalancing workflows more efficient and transparent:
• Create a portfolio for a specific plan: Determine the target allocation using the investments available in the workplace plan and relate it to the appropriate risk tolerance of the end customer.
• Assignment of applicable accounts: Add selected accounts within the same work plan to the appropriate portfolio by setting their target allocation without creating orders. Only accounts that the user is allowed to view and act on appear in the workflow.
• Select accounts ready for rebalancing: Choose which assigned accounts to include, rather than balancing each assigned account.
• View and send selected orders together: Review the suggested activity at the account level and determine which orders to ship together, with appropriate checks before the order is created.
• Tracking portfolio rebalancing history: View a record of attempted, shipped, and unshipped orders, including shipment details, status, and information on where further work may be needed.
The launch of Pontera Bulk Rebalancing reflects a broader trend as financial advisors seek more efficient ways to manage workplace retirement plan assets at scale while integrating 401(k) accounts into holistic wealth management strategies. As advisory firms continue to expand retirement plan services, tools that automate repetitive portfolio management tasks and improve operational efficiency are likely to become increasingly important in helping firms serve more clients without added administrative complexity.
Earlier this year, Orion and Pontera announced expanding their partnership to automate, rebalance and report for 401(k)s, 403(b)s and other workplace plans. The integration gives advisor teams a better context for more effective balancing and more confident customer service.
