Missouri signs CPA pathway bills into law
Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe signed Senate Bill 1233 into law, creating an additional pathway to the CPA license, which will take effect on August 28, 2026.

The new law, supported by the Missouri Society of CPAs, allows CPA candidates to apply for a license with a bachelor’s degree, two years of experience and the passage of the CPA exam. It also saves the exercise for external CPAs.

“We are pleased to see Missouri embrace these changes – expanding the pathways to CPA licensure while maintaining mobility,” said Dena Hull, vice president of strategy and communications at MOCPA. “It certainly marks an important step forward for the profession, increasing flexibility without compromising the integrity that defines the CPA name.”
“At the same time we are working with our state board of accounts to submit a review of the legislation that contains information related to the law,” Hull continued. “These should be installed within the next two weeks.”
Missouri is the latest state to pass licensing changes, as part of a nearly nationwide effort to address the shortage of skilled trades by making accounting easier. Just yes
