Marco Rubio announces visa restriction policy targeting members of ‘far-left terrorist’ groups – JURIST
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a new one on Thursday visa restriction policy barring foreign nationals associated with what the administration describes as “far-left terrorist” organizations from entering the US.
The policy targets foreign nationals who have been involved in or have materially supported acts of terrorism, violent crime, economic sabotage, or assisted far-left networks with any of these acts. It is issued under the section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Actwhich authorizes the Secretary of State to deny entry to foreign nationals who he reasonably believes may have “potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences” for the US.
In the State Department press release In announcing the policy, Rubio described far-left terrorist groups as using “sophisticated and organized networks to carry out violence as a political tool,” using “bombings, assassinations, and other forms of terrorism to silence speech, limit political opposition, change policy outcomes, and sabotage political processes.”
The State Department said the policy is being implemented in support of National Security Presidential Memorandum-7which directed federal agencies to investigate and disrupt networks involved in domestic terrorism and organized political violence, and part of a broader effort to disrupt these far-left networks before they escalate further.
