Retail sales edged up 0.2% in June
Forward estimates of US retail and foodservice sales for June 2026, adjusted for seasonal variations and differences between holidays and trade days but not for price changes, were $768.6 billion, up 0.2% from the previous month and up 6.7% from June 2025. Total sales for April 2026 to June 2026 increased 6.4% compared to the same period a year ago. The percentage change from April 2026 to May 2026 has been revised from 0.9% to 1.0%.
Core retail sales—excluding autos, parts and gasoline—increased 0.4% from last month and 5.7% from June 2025.
Non-store retail sales increased by 1.9% compared to last month and 14.2% compared to last year. Food and beverage services rose 0.1% from last month and 3.8% from June 2025. Sales by retailers of building materials, garden equipment and supplies rose 0.1% from May and 3.5% from last year.
Motor vehicle and parts dealers, sports equipment, hobby, musical instruments and bookstores grew by 1.9% and 1.3%, respectively, compared to last month.
During the year, furniture and home equipment stores remained unchanged, while clothing and clothing accessories stores grew by 4.8%.
Compared to the previous year, sales also increased for retailers by 6.0%.
Sales at gas stations fell 5.3% compared to the previous month, but increased 19.8% compared to June 2025.
