Take advantage of May
We welcomed TAIT again on May 12 with a special episode of Nurses’ Week, which we invited Ashton Cardernurse at the VA, to share her experiences of what it’s like to work at the VA.
“I think the main thing is to just go ahead and jump forward,” she advised viewers who may be thinking about moving to the VA. “Please reach out to that recruiter. I know I’m a recruiting nurse, but I’m talking about any position in the facility, so if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out. Go ahead, hit the button and apply.”
From there we turned our focus to updated federal resume requirementsand then started research General schedule and how that federal system helps to fairly determine the skills and experience needed for different pay grades.
(It’s a topic we’ve covered recently right here on the Jobs News & Tips page, too, if you’re interested in reading further.)
June was for job seekers
From there, TAIT took some time to talk about what to expect from federal hiring process and 3 Common Resume Mistakes to Avoid when submitting the application.
And as we closed the month, it was an honor to welcome you VA Deputy Secretary Dr. Paul R. Lawrencewho talked about being a veteran and the resources available to veterans at the VA.
Looking ahead
We’ve got a great summer of TAIT planned, including episodes on reference selection best practices, preparing for your VA interview, explaining how Veterans Preference works, and more.
But we want you to be part of the conversation!
Host Mike asks a few questions at the end of each broadcast, and we invite the audience to share what’s on their minds about the chosen topic of the week. For a wider range of questions, however, we host a A week of questions and answers every second Tuesday of the month.
Follow VA Careers social media accounts Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter) and LinkedInwhere we will post an open call for questions about applications, interviews, and anything else related to the VA hiring process.
During Q&A Week, Mike will answer as many of those questions as possible, and who knows—maybe a question someone asks will help you get the answers!
